In Danny Dunkin and The Element of Surprise, Danny Dunkin, a 10 year old happy go lucky all American boy, with a sister he loves to hate; learns that his father has been keeping a huge secret for nearly 20 years. That secret is, that his father, Try Dunkin, is a Wizzen from a magical world known as Doeknobia, who possesses magical powers. Danny, along with his sister will learn that they are Wizzens who also possess magical abilities.

 

Try is forced to tell his wife, Lois, and their children, Danny and 12 year old Dannel the truth of who and what he is, when his father, King Twy Dunkin, identical twin brother, Ty Dunkin, and seven Elders show up at his front door in the form most commonly used by Doeknobians whenever they travel from their world to Danny's world…MICE. When they transform into humans right in front of his family, the secret burst wide open.

 

However, Try ignores his father's request to return home, until Lois is attack by Patrobas, the leader of the Aegrog Dastards in an attempt to lure him back to Doeknobia. Patrobas’ primary goal is to take control of castle Dinefel, the Dunkin throne, and the 'The Seven Seal Book of Doeknobia,' and the only way to do this is kill every living Dunkin. After the attack, Try realizes that his Bald Eagle Avenue home is no longer a safe haven, but what Try doesn’t realize, is that this trip back home is only the beginning…not for him…for Danny. There is one more secret, that not even Danny’s father knows exist.
